Question: We know that we must do the will of God. But how do I know what the will of God is?
Answer: One of the most popular verses in the Bible is John 3:16 and it relates to how much God loves the world. He is not willing that anybody should perish and then also gives us the option to either accept the gift He has given or to reject it. This means that when we think about God and His relationship to the world, then we need to ask ourselves how our actions and behavior will make an impact on people so that they can come into a saving relationship with God by accepting His gift being Jesus Christ who became our substitute on the cross.
Another portion of the Word of God which is of importance is Romans 12:1-2 which relates to us providing ourselves as a living sacrifice to God. In this case we need to be a holy sacrifice and in doing that our bodies, minds, and wills need to be surrendered to Him. A good way to know and do the will of God is to first of all each morning when you wake up is to pray for guidance. Then you should read the Word of God so that it can renew your mind. After reading the Word then take some time to meditate on what you read and ask yourself how you can apply it to your life and thinking. Once you have done that then you can pray and ask God to help you to plan your day and to even give you the strength to do those tasks that you dislike or hate. You also need to remember and be prepared to expect God to work in your life so that He can do what He wants.
One of the most important verses relating to Jesus is found when He was in the Garden of Gethsemane where He prayed and asked the Father to let the cup of suffering and carrying our sins on the cross to pass from Him but …nevertheless Not my will be done but thy will be done.
There we see surrender and this is the example we must practice. Am I prepared to surrender my plans, my dreams, and my life, to God? Let God be in charge. Remember that God will never go against His Word. If what you are doing contradicts His WORD and does not Glorify Him then you must know that no matter how good your life might be, you will be out of the will of God.
